Caldwell Ink Company (mid 1910s)
In the publication “Oakland Tribune” dated April 25, 1917, 829 Wood Street, Oakland is reported to have been occupied by Caldwell Ink Company (James T. Lea, proprietor) and utilized as a “manufacturer of writing inks and pastes”.
Sealright Company of California (1920s)
In the publication “Oakland Tribune” dated July 20 1919, 829 Wood Street, Oakland is reported to have been occupied by Sealright Company and utilized as a “manufacturer of paper cans (cartons)”.
Telegraph Brush Manufacturing Co. Inc./ Robb-Giddings Supply Company/Baird Brush Manufacturing Co. Inc. (1930s)
In the publication “Sunset Magazine” dated 1932, 829 Wood Street, Oakland is reported to have been occupied by Robb-Giddings Supply Company and utilized as a supplier of Ring E-Z Mops and Pail set. In addition, this site was reported to manufacture wooden brooms and brushes.
20-Unit Residential Apartments (1940s-1990s)
By 1950, an elevator was installed and the building was converted into a two-story 20-unit two-story frame building. In addition, two small associated rear one-story buildings were developed.
Based on the historical references reviewed, the two-story commercial building with associated two small associated rear one-story buildings were listed as being occupied by the William Pates Apartments (1940s); Woodside Apartments (1950s), no listings however noted as “carton warehouse and rooms” in the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps (1960s-1970s); and Rufus Watson Jr./Nifty Ideas (1980s-1990s).
In 1994, the two-story commercial building and two small associated rear one-story buildings were demolished.
