Second Start offers a confidential setting in which low-literacy adults get a "second start" at learning, for free. The program helps adults improve reading, writing and math skills to achieve goals they define, whether it's passing the GED, getting a driver's license, reading a book for the first time, or creating a resume.
Adult students meet one-on-one with volunteer tutors. Students have access to a computer learning lab and family literacy programming. Small learning groups focusing on reading, spelling, vocabulary and math. Book discussions and special programs on voter education and health literacy are also available to students enrolled in the program. All services are conducted in English. English-learners who are conversational in basic English are welcome to enroll.
