The Southern Pacific Transportation Company or "SP" was a railroad and transit company with lots of Oakland connections. Its predecessor was the Central Pacific Railroad, which created the western end of the first transcontinental railroad, which had its terminus in Oakland.
In addition to regular freight and passenger trains, SP operated ferryboats across the bay, and electric interurban trains.
