Col. Thomas P. Robinson was a baseball team manager and promoter, including the Greenhood and Moran sponsored team of the California Baseball League. He was known for publicity stunts, including hiring controversial player Norris “Tip” O'Neill then saying he was going to make him manager, burning a championship pennant to rid the team of a hex (the team still lost), and in 1891, hiring and firing more than 40 players during the season. The Oakland team finished last that season.

Robinson later owned and managed the Oakland team, when it was known as "The Colonels" in his honor.
