The Weldonian Band and Majorettes were a youth marching band and majorette corps under the direction of Weldon L. Leonardson. It was active from 1939 to at least 1977. The Weldonian Institute of Music was at 3523 - 38th Avenue, and the majorettes were under the direction of Marlynne Leonardson in 1962. 3

The band was organized in 1937. The first public performance of the band was at the Golden Gate International Exhibition on Treasure Island in 1939. 2

In 1958, they performed with Bob Hope at the Show of Stars put on for the 3,300 paperboys of the Oakland Tribune. 2

They performed at the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle. 3

It was in Oakland for most of the time but by 1973 had moved to Hayward. At a July, 1973 council meeting, the Hayward City Council voted them the "official marching band" of the city of Hayward. 1
