William C. Jurgens (January 13, 1873 - February 28, 1940) was the secretary of the Winedale Company, a large wholesale and retail liquor business.
Jurgens was born in Oakland [Temescal], California, the son of Charles Jurgens. Reared in Oakland, the public schools afforded William C. Jurgens his preliminary educational opportunities and he graduated from the high school, in December, 1892.
Following high school Jurgens attended the University of California where he graduated in 1897.
Subsequently he had charge of the cooperative store at the university for five years, at the end of which time he and his father bought out the W. M. Watson Company, which they have since conducted under the firm name of the Winedale Company. Since that time William Jurgens was been secretary, and as such was active in the control of a business which grew along substantial lines. Jurgens was watchful of all indications concerning trade conditions, was energetic and determined in carrying out his plans, and as the years passed he achieved a measure of success which was the direct and merited reward of persistent, earnest effort.
In Oakland, on the 13th of January, 1911, Mr. Jurgens was united in marriage to Miss Gladys Thorpe.
Jurgens was connected with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He never ran for political office, instead preferring to concentrate his energies upon his business affairs, which brought to him substantial success.
