The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) oversees the federally-funded employment and training programs and services in Oakland. These programs and services help job seekers gain employment and connect businesses with a qualified workforce.
On Tuesday, March 26, 2013 the Workforce Investment Board awarded $1.4 million for job creation to five Oakland nonprofit organizations: Civicorps, Lao Family, Youth Employment Partnership, Youth Radio and Youth Uprising. The goal of the grant money is to provide employment for Oakland youth in a effort to reduce violence. 35 different organizations had applied for the funds, with only the five winning selection.
