The YMCA has a long history in Oakland, dating back to 1879. 1
The first YMCA building in Oakland was at 12th St. and Clay, and built in 1890. 2 The first tenant of that building was Aydelotte's Business College.
A new building was constructed at 2101 Telegraph beginning in 1909.
Sometime following a 1981 fire which destroyed the First Methodist Church at 2352 Broadway, a new YMCA building was constructed.
