The Franklin Building is located at 1624 Franklin, just south of 17th Street. The building was designed by architect Frederick H. Reimers and constructed in 1927.
The building is currently owned by an LLC affiliated with Monarq, which itself is affiliated with Balco Properties, which had purchased the building in 1998 and thereafter modernized and updated the property. 1,2 In early October 2023, Monarq submitted a preliminary application to the City of Oakland to convert the property into a hotel. 3
