Montclair Branch Library is located in the Montclair neighborhood of the Oakland Hills and is one of sixteen libraries in the Oakland Public Library system.

This branch has extensive materials on art, cooking, gardening, travel and home repair. There are 45,000 books, CDs, audio books, magazines, newspapers for all ages in the Montclair branch, including a reference collection.

There are separate sections for both children and teens ,with large and varied collections for each group.

The four computers have internet access, which feature Microsoft Office software.

Montclair Branch, 1930

In 1930 the construction of the library was funded by wealthy benefactor Chauncey W. Gibson, who donated for libraries in Oakland and Middletown, in Lake County. ^1,4 Mr. Gibson’s gift purchased the land and the new building at a total cost of $6,600. Designed and built by contractor C. C. Rosenberry and it opened in March of 1930. ² The idea for the storybook style came from Mrs. Charles Fisher, a member of the board of the Homes and Children’s Alliance, who wanted a library that would be cozy and welcoming. The children's room and patio at the rear were added in 1965. ³ The second addition, which involved filling in the patio for an expanded Children's Room, took place in 1999.
