On July 8, 1986 the Roos Brothers Building was designated Oakland Landmark #102, under Zoning Case #LM 86-36.

It appears to have been originally built for S.M. Friedman's women's apparel store in 1925, and designed by Reed and Corlett. ²

The location had previously been the site of the Albany Hotel.
