History
It was founded in 1969, with the merger of Prince of Wales College and St. Dunstan's University. The enabling legislation is the University Act, R.S.P.E.I 2000.

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public liberal arts university in Charlottetown. It is the only university in the province.
Departments
UPEI is home to Atlantic Canada's Veterinary College, the Atlantic Veterinary College.
