Charles H. Coffin was the son of James Park Coffin and brother of Maxwell Coffin2. He attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College), graduating in 1884. In 1906, he established the Alumni medal to presented to outstanding students of the college. This was later fully endowed and named the "Charles H. Coffin Alumni Medal."

 

Charles H. Coffin traveled throughout his life. He worked in insurance and after working in Pocahontas and Batesville (and most likely Powhatan), he worked in Little Rock, Texas and New York. At the time of his death in 1916, Coffin was president of the Niagara Fire Insurance Company. He died at age 53 in New Jersey. His wife was formerly Miss Nettie Maxfield of Batesville.1
