Owned a two story home overlooking Black River in Powhatan. Served as mayor and jailer for many years. Had a watermelon farm. Their house became a popular boarding house. Attended Methodist Episcopal Church. Two sons William Rector, and Robert Luther. Died 1931. Buried in powhatan cemetery.

George Flippo was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and was pardoned by Governor Davis.¹

 In 1901, G.W. Flippo was named an honorary commissioner to the World's Fair for Lawrence County.²

In 1908, Flippo unearthed a strange ore from a mine opened near Powhatan by himself. ³
