Henry H. Caldwell was a resident of Walnut Ridge. He owned and operated a barber shop there until he decided to run for sheriff. A newspaper described him as the smallest sheriff in the state, standing only 4’9 and weighing 100 pounds. His nickname was “Sparrow.”[1] He held the office until August 1922, when he resigned after being charged with embezzlement. Other sources report him as being removed from office. 3However, the charges were dropped when Caldwell had “made good” the shortage.[2]
