Rock Island Township offers services related to resident assistance and property assessment. The Township does not include all of Rock Island, but rather covers the area between the Mississippi River, 18th Avenue, and 46th Street or the eastern city border. This does include several Rock Island neighborhoods and landmarks. The Township office building is located at 2827 7th Avenue.
The Township administers many services for residents, including flu shots, leaf bag distribution, voter registration, employment assistance, free copies and faxes, and free notary services. Financial resources for needy residents include a General Assistance Program; emergency food and shelter funding; gently used clothes, shoes, and household items; evening meals; a food pantry; a blanket giveaway; and a seniors voucher for living expenses. The township also provides small grants to local non-profit organizations.. The township is an AARP Income Tax Preparation Site, and the building is open as a warming or cooling center when the area is experiencing extreme temperatures. The Township will also host candidate forums relevant to local elections.
The Township Assessor establishes the value of land within the Township's boundaries and keeps a list of tax exemptions that may apply to local property owners.
As of the 2010 Census, the population of the Rock Island Township was 17,776 and it contained 4.84 square miles of land and a total area of 5.74 square miles.
