The Holleman Brothers, two Confederate soldiers who had been buried in West Raleigh, were re-buried at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, April 14, 2012​. They were dug up in March 2012 because they were in an area that is slated for development. They have been lying in state at the history museum. A procession started at the museum and traveled to Oakwood Cemetery. The bodies were transported on a horse-drawn artillery caisson. They were escorted by an infantry columns, a fife and drum corps, etc. They were reburied  in the Confederatesection of the Oakwood Cemetery, with military and masonic honors. There were reenactors, ladies in black hoop dresses, etc. 

Photo Credit: Mark Turner, April 2012The two Holleman brothers died 150 years ago, within a month of each other. Joel was working in a hospital. Joseph was with the famous 26th Regiment, commanded by Zebulon Vance, who was elected governor later that year.
