Laura Hamlyn, Reid Serozi, Hannah Hoffman, Michael Carbaugh, Aaron Zalonis, Taylor Owens, Amy Lyons, Meagan Branthover, MIichael Galiano, David Goldstien

Brief

Meeting goals:

  • Brainstorm ideas
  • Assign Roles, mire success with all people have small tasks to accomplish instead of one person carrying most of the load.
  • Set timeline and milestones
  • Determine what we want the outcome to be
  • create small assignments to meet peoples availability

Brainstorming:

TriWiki Needs:Brand/Logo:

  • Wiki is local and covers many cities
  • can brand be adaptable to cater to groups, like UNC students wanting to brand their pages with their
  • would have to segment and categorizes sections of sites like businesses, towns, schools
  • each town and univ. wants landing pages that would hold links to pages related to it
  • Wiki needs to be open to everyone
  • people want a logo to represent their community/interests

issue with identity and UX online

UX issues:

  • need structure on back end to follow
  • hard to convey that anyone can edit a page, need to make it clear that you are invited to edit pages
  • capabilities of site aren't advertised on home page
  • can search based on maps
  • home page needs a redesign, frequently visited pages is good, rotating pages, links of to main cities
  • should it be dynamic home page?
  • do we want increased visit b/c of info or b/c of well -designed
  • should be easily maintained and sustainable
  • convey free source of info, not selling, community owned, it's yours
  • needs to be a source of good, in a true journalistic source type of way
  • make large bold statement on homepage that explains what you can do.
  • go to localwikis.org and check out what other cities are doing
  • inter view people and how they use it
  • home page refreshes with new info, images, videos, etc.
  • struggle with return visits to site
  • there is a pure design issue and need an identity unique to the wiki (current one was borrowed from city camp comps)
  • site: telling stories, CTA, clear understanding of what it's purpose is.

Currently looks like a placeholder, most of works has been creating pages, and getting people to use it, and getting the word out

marketing: launched site march 2011 and did press release then. there is a page with news coverage, have slowly made it in to the news, have done PR stunts, currently doing stunts where getting group together to hold "edit your city " sign and post the image on the page related to the place where people are in the photo. This has been successful.

Edit your city is their tagline.

Encourage people to create a TriWiki page about their cause to get support for it.

Success metrics, use analytics of TriWiki

1st goal, create an identity that really shows what the wiki is about

2nd generate ideas for redesigning site and see which one we will implement

Are their any partnerships we can create, like the GOOD magazine City projects. Laura want to investigate that

Need to track what we are doing for AIGA national, can we get help from other chapters DFG groups, Doug Powell should be aware, AIGA national can help us find advisers.

Need to create deadlines and goals, what kind of structure, how many meetups, set tasks, meet once a month for next 6 months, set aside time to talk about bigger initiative, and other ideas to pursue.

Need to focus on Impact, who do we make this story matter and make it bigger, do a case study and document our work. Investigate what is a good social impact for this project. What impact can we make outside of the identity.  Impact will tell story of why we are here and what we are doing.

Identity = raise awareness

UX = get more users

recent changes tab is like a news feed, goal is to have that tab be ever changing, the stream constantly changing is success to Reid.

Quality of involvement are their certain groups we want to get involved to share their knowledge.

Capture history of area, capture things that are going away, preserving history, capturing something new, like Hunt Library (that will become part of history) This is part of the impact we can create.

tasks could be to create pages that document stories that need to be heard , document case studies of the work we do. Pages about what something could be, like what to do with Dorthea Dix. What can people do there, what kids can do there, etc.

Want pages at a "nooks and crannies" micro level, not just page about Pullen Park, but a page about the carousel too. Creating these pages could be tasks.

What are the goals of new identity?

  • Discovery questions, to create formal brief.
  • what do users want, survey

What are goals for website?

  • Sitemapping
  • Tracking how users interact with it. People seem to drop in at the search level rather than home page.

Next meeting:

  • go over results of design questionnaire and create brief
  • set goals and tasks for next meeting
  • Amy will start design discovery and past to FB page to get input, then we will send out survey to contributors to get feedback. Will gather feedback for 1 week then make survey on survey monkey (teiwiki acct) and Reid will send out to contributors.

How to keep DFG momentum going:

  • empower people to form own groups and  work on their projects.
  • still choose one larger project as main project like TriWiki
  • post DFG that you are doing, like window project (look outside and find one thing you can do to create change)
  • capture all the DFG going on
  • use list from wed. mtg to see if there are organization where we can bring these projects to.
  • aggregate causes and their needs, so people can find a project they want to work on
  • partner with activate good
  • change the triangle could be another project, help raise awareness

How are we going to organize all the projects being worked on:

  • add featured case studies widget to website.
  • request people send in their case studies to post on our site (there's an outline for case studies on the national DFG page.)
  • set parameters to projects, have to finish it, has to have an impact, have to report on the project, needs to meet certain parameters to be considered a DFG project.
  • Need to establish a Process for deciding larger projects, a vetting process

Edit your city day on hackathon day, to create pages. schedule this around other events

want people to feel they own the page. how do we get this group to have true ownership of the page?

create list of tasks for TriWiki project:

  • allow someone to go out with edit your city signs
  • document your city, photo shoots, like that building that was torn down would have been great to get photos.
  • create list of things missing from site and let people choose to take on documenting it
  • get triangle type on Triangle Wiki

Goals for next meeting:

  • establish how DFG will work (Michael C & Hannah will research and document)
  • think about partnerships and sponsors (Laura)
  • design discovery survey (Amy)
  • create list of tasks for TriWiki projects
  • create DFG project page on TriWiki and copy these notes there and share with FB  & email group (Amy)
  • Aaron will look into location for next meeting
  • Do another doodle for next meeting
