Downtown Raleigh. Photo by Leo SuarezDowntown Raleigh consists of the original boundaries of the city when it was first created in 1792. The original boundaries were North, South, East, and West streets, named for the cardinal directions marking the borders. Today's boundaries are not properly defined, but most agree that they extend beyond the original ones to an approximate five-mile radius. Downtown is divided into five main districts.
