The Falls Lake Dam was constructed between 1978 and 1981 by the Army Corps of Engineers . It is an earthen dam, 92 feet high (above the stream bed) and 1915 feet wide. The project was undertaken to provide a regional water supply (Falls Lake) and to help with flooding and water quality issues.
