Innovate Raleigh steering committee meeting notes - March 1, 2013

In attendance

  • Jennifer Bosser, Raleigh Chamber
  • James Sauls, Raleigh Chamber
  • Derrick Minor, City of Raleigh
  • Jason Hibbets, Red Hat
  • Liana Fryer, NC State

Topics of discussion

  • Jason H. suggested that we post the meeting minutes on a Google Group so that the community can follow.
    • Action: Create Google Group and add steering committee, note: group will be public
  • Liana would like for NC State to host a future Steering Committee at the Hunt Library.
  • James to ask Aly Khalifa and Matt Tomasulo to adopt #raleighmakers as a place to start our Makers conversation.
  • Crowdsourcing the name for Innovation September could work if the sub-committee focusing on the event could provide 4-5 names that the community could comment on. Jason H. can help with structure once the names are provided. The group suggested that the names need to be provided in the next month so that groups have enough time to market accordingly.
  • Jason H. did a presentation on Xconomy. The group liked the idea and felt that it is a much needed tool. There are further questions that need to be addressed such as content control, local groups that could provide similar services and if there are any local sensitivities.
  • Jason H. updated on Cary’s National Data Day, which had 80 attendees. The local organizers in Durham, Cary, and Morrisville are interested in forming Code for America brigades and Raleigh is discussing forming a “division” of Code for America with these potential new groups.
  • James and Jenn will be pushing out the SXSW press release and ask for everyone’s social media support.
