"Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community." 

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is non-traditional food bank established in 1989 with 11 rescued breakfast sandwiches that would have been thrown away ​taken to a soup kitchen in Raleigh. In their first year of existence, they recovered  750 pounds of food from 3 food donors​.  In 2011, they recovered over 7.1 million pounds of food from over 300 donors and delivered it to program and agencies that feed the hungry in Wake, Durham, Edgecombe, Chatham, Orange, Nash, and Johnston counties.

    • BackPack Buddiesprovides children from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year
    • Kids Cafes - provides healthy, hot dinners for children participating in evening tutoring programs
    • Summer Feeding Program - provides summer activities and a balanced lunch, breakfast, and/or snack to children who receive free & reduced lunches during the academic year, but “fall through the cracks” during the summer months.
    • Afterschool SNACKS -provides healthy snack items to after-school tutoring programs, camps, and other active youth groups

  • Culinary Job Training Program - an eleven-week hands-on program taught by professional chefs, a job placement counselor and a case manager. Men and women with severe life challenges are prepared for careers in food service.
  • Catering with a Cause - hires graduates of the Culinary Job Training Program and generates funding for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's hunger-relief programs
  • Nutrition Education Programsinteractive, cooking-based nutrition education classes and activities for families at risk of hunger
  • Teaching Farmsprovide instruction, training, and fresh local produce for those in need.
  • Community Gardens - IFFS partners with communities to grow Community Gardens and promote healthy lifestyles
  • Young Farmer Training Program - paid multi-year farming apprenticeship for youth in Wake County. Apprentices  learn to co-design and implement profitable farm plans, market their farm products while keeping good records, cook and share healthy meals, teach the community about farming and gardening, and advocate for a better food system.
  • Field Gleaning - connects farmers who have excess crops with people who need excess crops through volunteer crews who gather the produce, which is then distributed by IFFS
  • Plant A Row for the Hungry -  a national program created by The Garden Writers Association that encourages garden communities and individuals to donate fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs to people in need
