Origin
- Jermaine Lamarr Cole, also known as his stage name, J. Cole, was born in Frankfurt, West Germany but raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
- He graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 2003, then went on to to St. John's University in Queens, New York.
Early Career
- In 2007, J. Cole released his first mixtape The Come Up, and attempted to contact rapper Jay-Z to give him the demo tape.
- In 2009, J. Cole joined Roc Nation, Jay-Z's record label after Jay-Z heard the song "Lights Please." He was the first artist to be signed.
- He appeared on his mentor's album "The Blueprint 3" on the song "A Star is Born."
- In the following two years, he released two mixtapes, The Warm Up (2009) and Friday Night Lights (2010).
- Following the drop of Friday Night Lights, he performed a college tour in 2010.
- J. Cole became an expert collaborating, making music with many other artists in the hip-hop world.
