Laurel Hills Park is a staffed park that includes a community center, basketball courts and lit athletic fields. It is also the home to the amazing, handicapped-accessible All-Children’s Playground.

The All-Children’s Playground is an elaborate wooden play structure with bridges, tunnels and towers, built with the aim of being accessible by children of all abilities. Built in 1991, it was a ground-breaking project drawing nationwide attention. In 2010, the process to completely rebuild the park will begin with public input and reviews. The project will be funded via a  public-private partnership between the City of Raleigh and various area businesses. The Frankie Lemmon Foundation, founders and supporters of the Frankie Lemmon School & Develomental Center will provide on-site programming for children with special needs. A ribbon-cutting for the updated park is planned for fall of 2011.

The Laurel Hills park includes something for everyone. Trails that wind in and out of the woods provide for shady walks on sunny days. The rec center includes indoor basketball courts and a dance studio. Like North Raleigh’s Millbrook Exchange Park, the rec center includes some basic excercise and weight-lifting equipment.
