Park Sign - Photo by Julie JarvisLittle River Regional Park is located in Northern Durham Country off of Guess Road, and includes 7 miles of hiking and 7 miles of biking trails as well as picnic areas/shelters, outdoor grills, a playground, a horse shoe pit, a butterfly garden and restroom facilities.

The hiking trails in the park have beautiful views of the Little River and due to the remote nature of the park are very quiet and a nice place for a peaceful walk in the woods.  There is also a handicapped accessable paved trail that is 1/4-mile in length that is perfect for strollers and bird watching.

According to published information by the park:  "The Little River Regional Park and Natural Area is a cooperative project between Durham and Orange Counties, funded equally by both, with major assistance from the Eno River Association, Triangle Land Conservancy, NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund, NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The park is managed by Orange County."

Directions to Park:

Please note that MANY GPS devices and some online mapping sites send people to the wrong location based on the address!  The following directions written by the park service will get you there every time.

From Hillsborough: take St. Mary's Road east out of Hillsborough. After crossing US 70 continue on St. Mary's for 1.5 miles and turn left onto New Sharon Church Road. Travel about 6 miles to intersection with Guess Road (SR 1003). Turn right on Guess Road and drive 1/2 mile. See park entrance on the left.

From Durham: take Guess Road north out of Durham. About 4 miles north of the Durham city limits, watch for the following landmarks, in order: St. Mary's Road, South Lowell Road, Little River Bridge, Bromley Road and the Durham/Orange county line. After passing 2nd entrance to Bromley Road (on right) travel another 1/2 miles and see park entrance on the right.

From Raleigh: take 1-40 and the Durham Freeway (NC 147) to Durham. Exit Durham Freeway at Swift Avenue. Turn right onto Swift Avenue, cross railroad tracks and Main Street, and drive straight on what is now Broad Street. Straight on Broad Street to intersection with Guess Road. Turn left onto Guess Road and drive north about 10 miles. After passing 2nd entrance to Bromley Road (on right) travel another 1/2 mile and see park entrance on the right.
