Rock Quarry Road is one of the main thoroughfares traveling through Southeast Raleigh and southern Wake County.

Route Description

Thentirety of Rock Quarry Road is surrounded by residential development with occasional commercial, constantly transitioning between two and four lanes. It starts at East Davie Street near Downtown Raleigh, opposite the south end of Tarboro Street. Rock Quarry carries three lanes due southeast, passing by the Raleigh National Cemetery and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Gardens at its intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Rock Quarry then merges onto a four-lane road at the southern terminus of Raleigh Boulevard and continues south, having an interchange with I-40 shortly thereafter. Turning to theast, Rock Quarry travels past Southeast Raleigh High School and a small shopping center. The roadway briefly narrows to three lanes west of a bridge that carries it back across I-40, returning to five lanes at an intersection with Sunnybrook Road. An entrance to the Coastal Credit Union Music Park follows, after which Rock Quarry reverts to two lanes at an intersection with New Hope and Jones Sausage roads. Rock Quarry continues southwest, ending at a fork intersection with Garner Road near the town of Clayton.
