The Schenck Memorial Forest is a research forest owned and operated by the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at NCSU. It occupies 245 acres between the Reedy Creek Greenway and the PNC arena. NCSU describes the forest on this page in the following way: "The forest is a popular recreation site for Raleigh residents who enjoy the solitude of the woods. Visitors can walk the well-maintained trails to enjoy birdwatching and wildlife, see a managed forest that shows successional stages and enjoy the well-maintained picnic facilities." That page also points out that dogs and bikes are not allowed in the forest.
