The Sir Walter Apartments (formerly the Hotel Sir Walter) were constructed between 1922 and 1924, designed by architects William L. Stoddart and James A. Salter. A classical revival building in the Georgian mode, it has the three-part composition typical of both classicism and early skyscrapers: a base, mid-section, and top. The base is the street level and the second floor, with the tall, arched windows of the ballroom, and is faced with deep-channeled stone courses. The mid-section is a simple repetition of windows and brick wall. At the top, an entablature is formed by stone moldings, brick walls, windows, and a stone cornice, with a brick parapet wall above.
