The Carolinian is an African-American newspaper based in Raleigh. Published twice a week, the Carolinian covers local, regional, and national stories that affect and interest the African-American community, stories that may be missed by more mainstream publications. Every year, The Carolinian publishes an education edition which showcases the area's colleges and universities.

The Carolinian was established by Paul R. Jervay, Sr. in 1940 at 118 E. Hargett Street. Paul was the son of Robert S. Jervay who started The Cape Fear Journal (now the Wilmington Journal) in 1927. Both papers are still run by members of the Jervay family and remain leading journals among African American newspapers in the south today.

You can pick up a copy of The Carolinian from newspaper boxes outside most Food Lion grocery stores in the area. Subscriptions are also available from their website.
