West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It is characterized by a distinctive elastic look that results from its basic extension-compression technique of partner connection, and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. The dance allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting West Coast Swing in a short list of dances that put a premium on improvisation.[1]

Going back even before the mid 1940's it was only done in the USA. West Coast Swing is now one of the latest dance sensations that has been sweeping the globe in the past decade and even now. It is not the average easy to learn dance but described by those who love it as totally addictive and more fun than anyone can imagine once you get the hang of it.

The most prominant places to go and do or learn West Coast Swing in the Triangle is Loafers Beach Club located 605 Creekside Drive, Raleigh, NC 27604. Ph# 919-872-5335. www.loafersbeachclub.com
