Triangle Wiki Project Celebrates Official Launch of the First Local Community-based Website

Raleigh, N.C. – March X, 2012 – The organizers of the Triangle Wiki Project and Local Wiki team announce the release of the Triangle’s first local wiki on March 14, 2012. The Triangle Wiki Project is a free, openly-editable community-centric website for resident information, history, events, greenways, parks, and everything interesting related to the Triangle region (Raleigh-Durham-Cary). The goal is to become a resource for ‘inside knowledge’ on the Triangle area.

“The Triangle Wiki contribution has been phenomenal,” said Reid Serozi, principal organizer of the project. “It’s a transformative and empowering project for the Triangle and one that will increase collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region. The Triangle has its fair share of successful websites with restaurant reviews, entertainment calendars, etc., but the information isn’t available in one place - and we believe there’s a lot more to share.”

The Triangle Wiki idea developed at a City Camp meeting in the fall of 2011, and several of the Raleigh City Camp organizers seized the concept and began to outline the project. The founders received permission to pilot the open source software from Local Wiki in Davis California. “In 2004 the Davis Wiki was started as an experimental project to collect and share information about the town of Davis, California,” said Philip Neustrom, co-founder, Davis Wiki. “The Davis Wiki is a vibrant online community where 1 in every 7 residents has contributed.”

Interesting pages on Triangle Wiki include Historic places in Cary, a comprehensive list of local vegetarian restaurants, and wide-ranging locations for plugging in your electric car. With more than 750 wiki pages to date, organizers are excited to reach the 1000 page launch goal over the next few days. To celebrate the launch and the growing momentum the Triangle Wiki team is hosting a public event at bu•ku restaurant in Raleigh on Wednesday, March 14 at 7pm.
