Welcome Meetup members!   The Triangle Wiki project is an ambitious effort to create community-owned, living information repositories that will provide much-needed context behind the people, places, and events that shape our communities within the Triangle Region.

Meetup groups are an important part of the Triangle Wiki, since they have unique knowledge about the Triangle related to their group’s activities.  We encourage you to add a wiki page about your group, places you host events or other interesting things/places/people that you know about the Triangle.

How can my Meetup group help with TriangleWiki Project?

Meetup groups generally have a specific theme that gives organizers and members unique insight into a specific area.  We want you to share that insight with others.  Here are some ideas on what you can do:

  • Create a page about your Meetup group.  Let people know how to join.
  • Create a page about venues where you host Meetup events.  For example, if you are a mountain biking group, create pages for the trails in the Triangle area with directions, terrain details and pictures!  If you are a “new to the triangle” group, list of the places your group meets and things you do to introduce newcomers of the great things the Triangle has to offer.
  • Tell your members about trianglewiki.org!  Encourage them to share their knowledge and expertise with others.

What should I include in my page content?

  • A description of the topic and as much detail as you can provide.  Try to use facts vs. opinions and site references when appropriate.
  • Map (use the map option)
  • Directions to the location if it is tricky to find (if applicable)
  • Pictures!  If you have personally taken pictures of the location, share them!

There is an existing page where I can add more helpful content.   Is that OK?
Absolutely!  The Triangle Wiki is designed to allow people to add and update content at any time.  If you can add more details, pictures, directions, etc., please do.  The better the content the better the Triangle Wiki will become as a one-stop Triangle resource.

I only know a little bit of information about a topic?  Is that enough for a page?

Yes.  The Triangle Wiki project has many “seed” pages that identify topics and are looking for others to help fill in the details.

The topic I want to include already has a website, can I just copy and paste the content or just include a link to the website?
We ask that you not copy and paste content but instead write a brief description and then include a link to the website.  Our goal is to have useful content in the Triangle Wiki so it can become a one-stop location for all the information about the Triangle.

What do you define as “The Triangle” area?
See Triangle Region

Is there a specific way I should format a Triangle Wiki page?
We have written up a quick style sheet that outlines formatting guidelines when creating wiki pages.
