The Triangle is home to a small but active community of kite fliers. We fly mostly 2-line and 4-line stunt kites, but some of us are also interested in kite making, power kites, fighter kites, and single-line kites.

Our most common kite location is Lake Crabtree park in Morrisville. This place is good for kite flying when the wind is from the West or South because then the wind comes off the water for a smooth breeze. For a good weather report, check the weather at the RDU airport, which is nearby. We also fly in a few other places, such as Womble park, and the Wal-mart in Louisburg. See kitemap.org for more locations that kite flyers have flagged.

We occasionally travel to the coast for kite festivals and competitions.. There's also a small kite festival each spring in Cary.

We have a mailing list for information and discussion about kite flying in the area: http://groups.google.com/group/rdu-kites
