"Railinc - I’ve heard of you. What do you do again?"
We get that a lot at Railinc. We’re not the IT company that dominates the headlines or suddenly goes viral with a new mobile app. But for more than a dozen years we’ve been quietly creating important value in a narrowly focused, but iconic, American industry — the North American freight rail industry. We're small, but consequential - what we do really matters. Intrigued? Here's more:
Our work is important.
Railinc’s work is important to commerce and the national economy. Every-day items from food and clothes to industrial materials and chemicals travel by rail across our great land. Railinc creates IT systems and applications that keep these goods moving and that support every link of the rail supply chain. From critical operations and financial systems to tracking and tracing applications to business analytics, Railinc is finding ways to help railroads, rail equipment owners, shippers and third-party logistics companies make good business decisions, increase productivity and keep North America moving. For example, in 2012 alone, we settled more than $17 billion in revenue among railroad industry partners. (You can learn more about how freight rail supports the nation here at www.freightrailworks.org).
Our technology is outstanding.
Take a look at Railinc’s technology footprint and you notice that it rivals that of the best known companies. Our partners include industry leaders such as IBM, Xerox, Red Hat, Cisco, Teradata, Sterling, MicroStrategy and Oracle. Our data center operates 24x7 to ensure maximum utility to our customers. And we deliver more than 9 million messages daily over our EDI network, process hundreds of millions of rail transactions and settle billions of dollars among railroads each year. From rich internet applications to mission-critical system integration to GIS development, Railinc makes compelling and consequential IT products. We lead across industries in the Agile development methodology, creating and delivering products that our customers need, want and enjoy using. Over the last few years, in addition to developing innovative industry applications, Railinc successfully implemented the most ambitious and comprehensive, industry-wide technology project in 40 years.
Those are just a few of the reasons why the N.C. Technology Association honored Railinc with a 21 Award in the category of “Industry Driven Technology Company.” This award, which celebrates innovation and excellence among technology companies in our state, is one of North Carolina’s most prestigious technology awards. Others have taken notice of us too. We've also been recognized on multiple occasions as a Top Logistics IT Provider by Inbound Logistics magazine and consistently ranked in the ten Top Software Developers in the Triangle by the Triangle Business Journal. Our executives have been recognized for excellence by leading publication and organizations across the IT and logistics industries, including Supply and Demand Chain Executive, the Transportation Marketing and Sales Association and CIO Search.
Our people make good things happen.
The people at Railinc are smart, creative and enthusiastic. And we care about our community and the people with whom we work. Railinc and its people contribute both time and money to important organizations that serve the Triangle, such as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, Relay for Life, and the American Red Cross. Employees bring their kids (and their neighbors’ kids) to work once a year to show them that there is interesting and important work for them to do in the years ahead. We cheer our runners in local races, play weekly volleyball and compete during basketball tourney time. These are just a few examples of the things we do to help each other and our community.
