The Wells Fargo Capital Center (formerly the Wachovia Capital Center), erected in 1991 by Stevens & Wilkinson, is a 28-story skyscraper with both modern features (like the extensive use of glass and no ornamentation) and traditional elements (the use of granite to imply structure and the triangular gable at the very top). This makes the building post-modern in style. Also a modern trait is the way it stands free of the surrounding buildings, yet an effort is made to engage the street line of the older buildings with the use of a low pergola-like form.
