The Slate is a Simpson University bimonthly publication that seeks to be a forum for communication between students, faculty and staff, and Redding businesses and churches. The Slate staff meets once a week in a newspaper practicum class, where students learn journalism by simulating a real newsroom environment.
Reporters and photographers cover campus events, issues and people. Student columnists share opinions and reviews. Graphic designers lay out the newspaper, and copy editors check for errors and write headlines. The ad manager works with businesses that want to advertise. A student editor oversees the process, with help from a faculty adviser.
