Branch clothing is unique and made for you:

Branch Clothing started at a kitchen table with a couple of college students. The name of our company is literally a shortened version of Brian and Chris + Clothing. With zero design or sewing experience among us, we ripped apart a pair of shorts and proceeded to make our own.  Five hours later, we had an ugly pair of shorts.  But there was something about that ugly pair of shorts which caught our eye, something that gave us a feeling that there may be some potential for something big: the back pocket.

This was just as the boom of companies allowing for customization of pocket tees was hitting and we saw a great opportunity for the customization of shorts.  Through experimentation, we developed a solid pattern and we began sewing and selling fully customizable handmade shorts to our friends and family.  People loved the shorts; not just the style, comfort, and fit, but the fact that they got to play a part in bringing the shorts to life: they designed them.

An idea started to form in the back of our minds, the idea of “The Shorts Bus.” We wanted to be able to go to people, not make them come to us. The idea of a traveling clothing company had never been done before, and it was something we got really excited about. We launched our first Kickstarter based on this idea, and we successfully met our funding goal. However the idea, while not without merit, was not fully formed yet. We needed to be a successful clothing company before we could afford to be a traveling clothing company.

As time went on we began to develop an awareness of who we were, and what we wanted our company to be. We decided as a group that although money was something we all wanted to make eventually (everyone has to eat right?), we weren’t really in this for the money. We wanted to be able to give something back to the world. We realized that most of the patterned fabrics for the pockets that we liked came from countries where people are less fortunate than ourselves. We were lucky enough to form an alliance with Prosperous Threads, a company that helps mothers in Mali support themselves and their children through dyeing fabric. Their fabrics are perfect for our shorts and sweatshirts, and we are doing a little good by working with them. As time goes on we would like to develop other such partnerships with similar organizations around the globe. Let us be clear: we are not on a mission to save the world, nor are we able to. However, we truly believe in striving for a better tomorrow through global cooperation and love.
