The N at the top of the hill, directly across from Rancho San Rafael, signifies the University of Nevada, Reno. This hike takes effort to get to the top, however once at the top the view is breathtaking. It overlooks most of Reno and Sparks area. To begin this hike there are two starting points. One is through Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, and the other is at the Reno Sports Complex on N Virginia Street. This hike is very popular for hikers and many mountain bikers.

This hike is about a mile and a half, depending where you start. By starting through the Reno Sparks Complex it takes about 30 minutes to reach the top. Once you are close to the top of the hill, the path becomes steep and rocky, which makes it a little slippery. It is highly suggested to bring a pair of sturdy shoes for this hike.

It is highly encouraged to go on this hike around sunrise and sunset, when the views are really breathtaking.

Every year, during the beginning of the fall semester, the students at the University of Nevada, Reno hike up to the N and maintain the mountain. They pick weeds and put a fresh coat of paint on the N for everyone to enjoy.
