A depot for the fast growing Sacramento Northern Railway (formerly the Northern Electric) was built along Front Street in Rio Linda near the center of the town in 1914. While the railroad was taken out of service and torn up in the 1970s and 80s, the depot was long demolished at an unkown date. Although, the station's passenger portion was sawed off and moved nearby to be used a house. In 2004, a replica of the depot was completed to be used as a community center. was nearly finished on a replica of the depot which will serve as a community center. The former Sacramento Northern Railway trackage is now paved as the 'Sacramento Northern Trail.'
