    • Au sujet d'Asa Gaylord : "Upon his arrival in Stanstead, ca 1832, Joseph Soper Walton was immediately associated with Asa Gaylord, who would be his business partner for almost 20 years. [...] What we do know for sure is that Asa Gaylord, born May 9, 1796, was actually living in Montpelier in 1824 as he contracted marriage there on December 28 to Eleanor C. Barker. Joseph Walton and Asa Gaylord probably planned their joint venture in Stanstead while both worked in the book trade in Montpelier. [...] Walton and Gaylord, however, did show excellent timing in their arrival in Stanstead. It was at a time when Silas Dickerson was experiencing terminal financial problems with his printing office. [...] In any case, Walton & Gaylord printed and issued their first books in 1833 and early 1834. [...] Apart from publishing books in parternship with Joseph Soper Walton, Gaylord pursued several line of commercial activities at the same time, including the business of selling and hanging wallpapers, a line of work which appears to gain in importance at the end of March, 1839, taking up much of Gaylord's time and attention in following years, as his ledger certainly demonstrates. [...] There may be a link between Gaylord's new interest in wallpapers, perhaps, as it appears from his ledger, as a wholesaler or manufacturer, and his declining interest in publishing".
