      • Résumé : Location pour un terme d’un ou deux ans (en option), à 65 dollars par an (« payable at the end of each year »), et valide à partir du 1er janvier 1841. Butler a besoin d’une salle pour le commerce à Rock Island : « The Lower or Front room in that certain Building of Wood, situate on Rock Island in which the said Asa Gaylord keeps his Book store or shop, the entrance being from the door East on the road, the room extending back to the partition that divides the same from the room in the rear used for a book binder shop with all which the said Thomas C. Buttler declares himself acquainted and satisfaid, having viewed and visited the same. […] And it is the understanding of the said parties that should the said Thomas C. Buttler require the use of the room in the rear used as a Book Bindery as aforesaid, the said Asa Gaylord, hereby consents to lease the same for the same term as aforesaid at and for the additional rent of thirty five dollars per annum. […] The said Asa Gaylord reserving the right of passage in said room from the lower room to the upper room, by erecting a partition near the window. The manner of which is well understood between said parties, the said Thomas C. Buttler giving reasonable notice of the time he may require said room ».
