Moses Pierce (tanner and shoemaker)
-
Moved in Rock Island in 1824
-
Bought the water power and tannery on the site now occupied by the Jondro boot and shoe factory.
-
The first dwelling house, owned by Moses Pierce, was on a piece of land which, from its peculiar shape, has always been called "the flat iron". The house stood exctly where Mr. Melloon's is located. [...] Subsequently, the tannery, dwelling house and land passed from my father's possession. He then built a house where the parsonage is located.

Au sujet Moses Pierce : "In the winter of 1824, Moses set out from Thornton [New Hampshire] for Rock Island with his wife, young children and household goods. [...] We do know that upon arrival in Rock Island, he purchased some means of water power and a tannery (probably located on the east bank of the Tomifobia River, across from where the Del Monty Hotel now stands) and there set to work as a tanner and a custom shoemaker". [Moses meurt en 1897, plus que centenaire].
