Mrs J. A. Woodman, reçu le 17 novembre 1898 : « On the fifth day of the month of November [1898] […]. Before Mtre Charles M. Thomas, the undersigned Notary Public […], personally appeared Dame Elizabeth Ellen Brown, of the said Township of Stanstead, wife of James A. Woodman, of the same place, Electrician, from her said husband separate as to property by reason of their marriage in the Province of Ontario […] with intention to reside and subsequent residence in the Province of Ontario, and by her said husband duly and expressly authorized for all and every the effects and purposes hereof as testified by his being a party hereto and signing theses presents. Which said Elizabeth Ellen Brown did and doth hereby certify and declare that she intends to carry on trade and business as a Milliner and Dealer in Fancy Goods at the Village of Rock Island […] under the name and style of “Mrs J. A. Woodman” as Marchande publique […] and that the said business commenced and shall date from the fourth day of November instant [1898] and that she conducts the said business solely in her own name, with the express consent of her said husband without his participation therein in any manner or way whatsoever […] ».
