History
Rugby School was founded in 1567 with money left in the will of Lawrence Sherriffe, grocer to Queen Elizabeth the First. He left the money in his will to found a boys school for his local town. The school became fee paying to help maintain itself, and the Lawrence Sheriff School was later founded in 1878 to continue his original intent.
