American Legion Continuation High School is in the Sacramento City Unified School District.

American Legion High School is a large continuation high school which proudly works with students from many backgrounds. Our students have the opportunity to achieve their academic goals in a setting which fosters student ownership, responsibility and self-respect.

The staff at American Legion High School is highly committed to working with our students in smaller group settings than traditional schools offer. Our smaller class size provides for a greater level of personalization than formerly available to most students.

The structure of the class schedule is such that the equivalent of three semesters is offered during the regular school year. An extensive orientation is provided for all new students with immediate enrollment into the “TLC” class where students learn more in depth how American Legion can help them achieve their goals. The students actively participate in charting a course towards graduation and regularly review their progress through their portfolio contents and with the counselor. In some courses, students may do extra assignments and projects to accelerate through their classes.

In order to assist students with career goals, American Legion offers an on-site ROP class. Students also participate in a career inventory and are guided towards acquiring the skills to achieve their aspirations through coursework in core subject areas, art, industrial art, social/humanistic classes, and a variety of business courses.

American Legion has received a digital high school grant. The school is being wired for internet access, and equipment is being purchased so that students can access the technology they need to be successful. All students are to matriculate through the new Introduction to Computer Course.

American Legion hosts one of the first Infant/Toddler centers to exist in the state of California. This staff provides childcare for children 2 months to 2 years of age. These are the children of young people who make the challenging choice to continue in their education.

American Legion has a school environment which effectively blends the target of student learning in a friendly, safe atmosphere. Just as high student performance is a daily expectation, school-wide barbecues provided by the entire staff, coupled with an ongoing student recognition program, balance the scale.
