Just across the street from Faces and close to Sac's midtown bars, Hot Rod's is great when the club has just shut down, you're hungry, and not quite ready to head home yet. Open until 2am and 3am on weekends, Hot Rod's is cleaner than your average burger joint, serves excellent burgers/fries and offers a decent beer selection along with old '80s videos on their two plasma screens. Because of its location in Lavender Heights, Hot Rod's is popular with the gay crowd across the street, but it welcomes all non-haters.

They serve big & messy chili dogs, but their cheese fries are kind of small. A sex shop called The G Spot is located next door.

2008-02-08 20:06:30   Horrible. My wife ordered the chicken caesar salad and the chicken was old, spongy, microwaved and inedible. I thought it was a joke—it came in a plastic bowl with a lid like at Burger King or something. Rip off for $5+. I suppose it's not really the place to get a salad, but still. My burger was totally average, totally forgettable, and expensive for what you get at $4.50+. The worst part in my mind was the garlic fries, which were completely inedible. They were soaked in some sort of foul oil and were wet, goopy and soggy. And I love garlic fries, especially the ones at Jack's Urban Eats. So we were really disappointed. Also, the place was incredibly expensive for how bad it was. We got one burger (the most basic one there was), one small soda, a garlic fries and a caesar salad, and it came out to almost $18. —ericostrem
