Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery is a family restaurant chain famous for their pies. They have a decent salad bar and serve modestly priced entrees. Their menu is good European-derived American fare, chicken and beef of various cuts and preparations, plus burgers and salads. Their soup is generally high regarded and their signature dishes are their chicken pot pie and the "Ham Stack" sandwich. Their breakfast menu is extensive, with a range of waffles and various egg-centered dishes.

Their pies are legendary, prepared at the location and constantly rotating through a very wide range of types (try the double cream blueberry). They offer various internet deals, generally giving free pies in exchange for filling out a survey.

In most of the country they are only known for their frozen dinners, frozen pies, and cornbread mix; their frozen pies sell well and are heavily advertised well beyond the areas they have their restaurants. You can find their restaurants throughout the western states, though the majority of their restaurants are in California. The first restaurant was opened in 1964 in Orange, California. About two thirds of the restaurants are company owned, with the balance being franchised locations.

2007-06-02 23:51:39   I think this place is often overlooked, as it is away from all the trendier areas, and many customers are elderly, but I just love the small town/homey feel I get from this place. Great for comfort food. I recommend their potpies, or their famous chili and cornbread combo with honey butter! And of course, take home a pie :) —noahsark
