As the summer winds down, hundreds of individuals of all ages are flocking to see the award-winning individuals in the up close and personal setting that the Sacramento Speakers Series offers. The thrill of having prestigious individuals speak on a wide range of subjects from world affairs and economics to the arts and entertainment is just one of the many reasons why the Series remains a top community experience.

The Sacramento Speakers Series is a community lecture series. The Series promotes free speech and an open forum of important issues. These issues are discussed and debated between the nationally acclaimed speakers and patrons of the Series. Current owner of the Series, Attorney Mitchell Ostwald describes the Series as “an extraordinary community experience. It gives our patrons an opportunity to hear about a variety of topics from influential and renowned speakers.” The speakers are chosen on the basis of their career achievements, and unique expertise in their particular field of endeavor. Each extraordinary speaker can be seen at the Community Center Theater, in downtown Sacramento.

This seventh season of the Sacramento Speakers Series, Mr. Ostwald will welcome six prominent and astounding speakers, including David Gergen, Condoleezza Rice, Richard Roeper, Peter Greenberg, and Lisa Ling. The season opened Oct. 11 with David McCullough and will finish April 3, 2012, with roughly one engagement per month. David McCullough opened the Series on Oct. 11, followed by David Gergen on Nov. 29, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Jan. 11, Richard Roeper on Feb. 1, Peter Greenberg on March 1, and concluding with Lisa Ling on April 3.

Currently, the Community Center Theater is home to season productions for Broadway Sacramento, The Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Opera, Sacramento Philharmonic, and Sacramento Community Concerts.

In recent years, audiences have enjoyed performances by world-renowned artists such as Johnny Mathis, Jackson Browne, Garrison Keillor and Jerry Seinfeld — as well as sold-out multi-week engagements of “Mamma Mia”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, “The Color Purple”, “Jersey Boys”, and Disney’s “The Lion King”.

All subscriptions include a $3 facility fee on each engagement.
