The SAP Center is San Jose's home for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The center is also the city's major concert venue. It was named "Arena of the Year" in 2005 and 2007 by concert industry magazine Pollstar. The center was built from 1991 to 1993.

The SAP Center was formerly known as the San Jose Arena (1993-2001), the Compaq Center (2001-2002) and the HP Pavilion (2002-2013).

The building hosts 41 San Jose Sharks games per year, with the exception of special events such as the 2015 game that took place at Levi's Stadium in nearby Santa Clara, California. It also hosts 9 games of the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League annually.

The SAP Center has also been the performance venue for many top recording artists, including Madonna, Shania Twain and Miley Cyrus.

In 2015, WWE held its annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in the SAP Center, as well as 2 WWE Raw live events.
