The Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County promotes the advancement of the arts and artists of Santa Cruz County. The council organizes the Open Studios Art Tour, and in 2010 named the first official poet laureate of Santa Cruz, UCSC professor Gary Young. The poet laureate position entails a two year term, and a 5 year residency in the area is required.
